Bye Bye July

 29 Jul 2009 12:22:28 am

Got rained on again…Seems like it’s becoming a common occurrence. Spent the week in Aitkin County, working on a quad trail system. Specifically, we were installing what is known as geo-block into lowland bog areas. It’s purpose is to stop erosion from the 4 – wheelers and still allow plant growth. It is pretty expensive and is very new technology. It is the first install of this stuff in the lower 48. It was introduced in Alaska, and word has spread down here. Here are some pictures of us at work.

Had a neat campsite next to the Mississippi. There was an old railroad bridge that was converted to use in the same atv trail that we were working on.

That was the week…Next came the weekend. On a whim me and a couple of friends decided to take a trip to Duluth, and the north shore of Lake Superior. I’m glad we did too it was a lot of fun. Here are a couple of pictures from that adventure.

I have a lot of pictures, but am too lazy to load them all, sorry guys. Hope Tuesday was good to you. This week we are doing trail work, I’ll try to get some pictures of that…hard work, I’m tired…Going to drink a beer and watch the cubs, do not disturb

  Work'n & Playin

 20 Jul 2009 03:50:15 am

Had to work in the rain this week, it poured on us for close to 3 hours. Thanks goodness it stopped in the evening and gave us enough time to set up camp. Anyone who has camped before knows that lots of rain and tents don’t do well together. Turned out that was the only wet weather we had to deal with, so I guess we got pretty lucky there. Here are some pictures of the rain, in case you have never seen rain before.
Me and Mark trying to make the best of it.

A very rained on crew….

Waiting to pitch our tents, drying our clothes out, will the rain ever stop??? I have never felt more like a hippy in my life. It was a good time though, one of those situations where your attitude can either keep you sane or drive you crazy.

The Rig is getting a free wash!!!

All done…

We were doing some more lake shore restoration, same old same old…planting plants and pulling weeds. Here is the crew and the people we spent the week working with.

Ok as promised in the title to this post its time to talk about playing. I got to do a couple of fun things this weekend. We took a float trip on the crow wing river on Saturday that would have been fun if the air temperature would have been higher then 65, and the sun would have been out. It actually was still pretty fun…it may have taken a few beers to keep ourselves warm… I didn’t take any pictures there sorry, just imagine that the ice cubes in your water are me and my friends floating down the river .

I did get a nice day on the water in though. Today was really a gorgeous day, one of those perfect days that the Minnesota summer so often gives you. Caught some fish, remembered my sun screen, and got to watch the sunset from a boat…all and all great day! Here is how my great day came together…
You take a little bit of this…

And add in this guy right here….

This, which just happens to be the answer, presents itself…

How’s that for an equation??? It beats the hell out of derivatives I think…OK I’m a dork, but whatever.
Pictures continued

Purdy Flower…

Purdy fish…

Nother purdy fish…

That’s my boat…

I miss everyone a bunch, and hope that you all are doing well!!!!!! Last full week of July, holy crap!!! I am beginning to feel this weight on my shoulders saying “You need to figure out what you are going to do after your term is up.?.?.?.?” It is not a good feeling to have stuck in the back of your mind, but I’ve got some time to think. Take care everyone have a good week

  Back home again in Minnesota

 07 Jul 2009 02:14:42 am

Well I’m back up here now. I had a great trip home, and am glad that I got to see so many of my friendliest friends and family…If I missed being able to get a hold of somebody and didn’t get a chance to hang out with you I’m sorry…Perhaps next time…possibly labor day or definitely thanksgiving. I’m not the best person when it comes to planning things out like these trips… I generally try to keep myself as free as possible and let the plans sort of make themselves, I hope that makes sense.

Anyhow it was good to see you all, and see that you are all doing so well. It is only during these trips home that it sinks in just how far away I am from everybody. It’s crazy how you get use to new surroundings so fast.

It’s been a good first half of my term up here in da north woods, and I expect nothing less for the second half. Sounds like we will be starting off the second half putting up a fence to keep deer out of some cedar plots in Chippewa National forest. So that being said I am going to get some ice cream and then get some rest.
Take care everyone!!!!
