No more baseball

 31 Jul 2011 04:45:48 pm

Thursday was the last baseball game of the year for my team, as we were eliminated from the playoffs by the Ada A's. But I wanted to make a post with the links to the local paper and radion station because there's some pretty cool pictures of myself and my teammates. You'll have to scroll through the sports section, and click on anything that says Crookston Reds. Also the last link is our team website, which should have all my offensive stats for the year, and my player profile (written by my coach). So if you get a minute check it out.

  Midsummer in the North Country

 19 Jul 2011 05:15:46 pm

As usual my summer activities have lead to the neglect of blog. I managed to find a few minutes here today to throw some pictures up, and give a quick update on the goings on here.
I guess the biggest news is that three weeks into the Nation’s largest state government shutdown it sounds as if there is light at the end of the tunnel. A special session is going on as I type to get the details ironed out on a budget agreement, so long story short I might actually be able to go to work tomorrow! Let’s hope that’s the case.
I’ve been trying to make the most of my time off, a trip home and countless hours spent on the lake have occupied my time. Thank goodness, because I would have gone crazy just sitting on my butt in the house.
The regular season is over for my baseball team, and tonight is our first playoff game. Hopefully we get started with a W.
The only other news is I’m looking forward to my folks visiting this weekend. Hopefully I don’t overwhelm them by trying to show them everything there is to see up here. Travel safe guys.

Hope summer is going well for all, here are some pictures from the past few weeks. Enjoy!

  Steady as she goes

Quick update...

Work this week went well. I recieved training to get the ball rolling on my faller B certification. Basically meaning I'm certified to cut down reallly big trees.

Fishing went well also. We got out three times, caught fish everytime. The bass are hitting on top water, and that's the best way to catch em.

We swept a double header against Moorehead yesterday. I was 1-3 with a walk the first game, and two runs scored. As for the second, 1-2 with two walks, a RBI, stolen base, and 3 runs scored.

Life is good, and a good day to all

  ...........

Been a busy man the past couple of weeks. Seven baseball games in nine days, working during the week, and fishing in the evenings. It’s been go, go, go. That’s what I love about summer time up here. There’s always something to do. For a while this past week I felt like I was always on the move, from the time my feet hit the ground in the morning, until my butt hit the bed at night. That’s a good feeling. Trying not to waste a second, because 5 o’clock sunsets are only 6 months away. Right now I’m content with the last signs of the sun disappearing around 10pm.

Got to hit the lake with my boss, and his boy this past week....Also I need to throw in the disclaimer that no bobbers were used in the catching of this fish

So that’s that….Until next time…

  Fishing & Baseball…Nuff Said

 07 Jun 2011 11:05:09 pm

We'll start with an update on work, and then move onto the fun stuff. The past week we’ve been doing a lot of cutting. Strengthening fire breaks by dropping, and dragging some cottonwood tree away from the line. Cutting is not so bad, but the dragging part sucks. I’m sort of embarrassed to say that the 80 degree day we had on Monday was about all that I could handle. Boy do I sound like a resident of northern Minnesota. It was tough work, but I managed through. Today we took a break from sawing and scouted a wildlife management area (wma) in the county to the north of us. There is an old run down fence that runs a mile and a half through the property that we will be taking out. We had to do a lot of walking and flagging to mark where the fence is. I think the fence was put in in the 1800’s. It’s all walked down and buried , so I’m sure it will be a challenge to get it out of there.
We’ve got orders placed for our sawing gear (we had been borrowing an local dnr office’s saws), and that makes me very happy. We actually got to pick the saw we wanted, and I believe will have our own saw. So here in a week or so I will be rocking a brand new Stihl 441 magnum with a self adjusting carb. Is that not the best news you’ve ever heard? Alright so you might not care, that’s alright.
Another update is that there is a very good chance that all state agencies will be forced to shut down on July 1st until the state government agrees on a budget. Sort of like the federal budget that went down to the wire before it was passed earlier this year. So I get hired onto the state just in time to get let go. That’s kind of out of my control though. I just hope the bureaucrats get their heads out of their butts by then… If not, I’ll just take a long 4th of July vacation.
That’s work, now for my play time. We’ve started baseball. Three games in our record is 2-1. We’ve got a game tomorrow and a tournament this weekend. Actually we have a very busy schedule during June. I’m playing shortstop and having a good time. I feel much more comfortable than I did last year, so I hope my numbers improve. Here’s a few pictures from this past weekend’s double header.

Up to bat…

Isn’t this batting stance a thing of beauty!!!???!!!

Manning the 6 hole…

Here’s a couple of fishing pictures, no big ones to show, we caught a bunch of small northern pike and bass. It was a good time anyways, and a nice evening. Also we worked our way around a tree and caught this pileated woodpecker hanging out in front of its nest.
